Marine fuel diversification and the commercial challenges of shipping decarbonisation were central topics at SIBCON 2026 in Singapore, according to Alkagesta’s account of its participation. The company said its team attended conference sessions and met shipping and bunker market participants during a week of engagement with the global marine fuels industry.

Alkagesta reported that discussions explored how biofuels, methanol and LNG could supplement conventional marine fuels, with their roles varying by vessel type and trade route. The company linked those themes to its own expansion in sustainable fuels, citing a five-year UCO feedstock offtake agreement and a multi-year agreement for biofuel storage at Pantank in Antwerp. It presented the conference discussions as consistent with developments already taking place across its trading platform.

Security of supply was another recurring subject, the company said. Conference discussions considered a broader fuel mix as a means of managing risk, limiting reliance on individual supply sources and helping vessel operators withstand disruption. Alkagesta placed those conversations against a backdrop of continuing supply pressures in global energy markets, rather than treating diversification solely as a response to decarbonisation requirements.

Moving lower-emission shipping initiatives beyond pilot programmes was also on the agenda. According to Alkagesta, industry leaders identified clear regulation, safety frameworks and the availability of finance as important conditions for bringing such projects to commercial scale. The account described these as enabling factors for the transition towards a marine fuel market using multiple fuel types.

Alkagesta’s delegation included founder and chief executive Orkhan Rustamov, alongside representatives responsible for investments and asset management, APAC commodity trading, marine fuel distribution and marine fuel trading. Outside the formal programme, the company said it met shipowners, bunker traders, customers, suppliers and other industry counterparts. Those meetings focused on maintaining established relationships and examining potential collaboration across the APAC region.
