Alkagesta said its banking partners provide more than US$1 billion in combined banking facilities and trade finance lines, highlighting the funding relationships at a summit held at its Malta headquarters on 2 October. In an account published on its website, the company described that support as a foundation for expanding its global trading business and operations in Malta.
The full-day Banking Partners Summit gathered representatives of financial institutions from Switzerland, the Netherlands, Austria, the United Kingdom and Malta. Clearing partners also attended, alongside local industry and government stakeholders. According to Alkagesta, the agenda centred on commodity trading, trade finance, risk management and compliance, as well as Malta’s development as an international trading location.
The programme combined office presentations with a visit to the Evos Malta terminal and discussions with the terminal’s management. It ended with a gala dinner intended to deepen professional ties and provide an opportunity to consider further collaboration. The terminal visit brought a logistics and storage element to an event otherwise focused on the financial relationships supporting the company’s trading activities.
Alkagesta linked its banking relationships to transparency, financial discipline and regulatory compliance. The company said international bank support helped it pursue trading strategies while maintaining governance and control arrangements. It separately highlighted the contribution of clearing partners, whose services, market access and risk coverage support the execution and hedging of its trades within its risk management framework.
The company also presented the discussions as evidence of Malta’s appeal for commodity trading and trade finance. It cited European Union membership, the regulatory framework, financial services infrastructure and a developing network of logistics and storage operators as advantages. Alkagesta characterised continued cooperation among banks, clearing institutions, terminal operators and local stakeholders as important to Malta’s further growth as a centre for trading, finance and international commerce.
